High School Students

Welcome Future Owls

It is important to understand the differences in your rights and responsibilities as you leave high school and enter college. Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • Visit Disability Resources and Services (DRS) for an information session during your junior or senior year of high school.
  • Understand your disability and how it impacts your educational experience.
  • Know your rights and responsibilities as a student entering college.

Differences between High School and College

High School College
School is responsible for identifying/ diagnosing the students. You are responsible for identifying yourself.
All students must be provided with appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. May qualify for reduced course load. Qualified students are eligible for appropriate accommodations but not reductions in course requirements.
Parents’ comments are required. You are responsible for self-advocacy. Parental involvement is limited.
