Distraction Reduction Apps

Focus

(Mac OS, Web Based)

This is a paid monthly subscription app, that you can download on your computer. It allows the user to customize which websites should be blocked, or for a more strict environment users can specify what is allowed. You can even disable notifications. The app also allows the user to set up a specific schedule (such as 9-5) or turn on whenever the computer is turned on.

Brain FM

(Web Based)

Paid monthly subscription. This app goes outside the box, and allows users to play music. For many people with focusing problems, noises are distracted. Having something on in the background can help refocus away from surroundings, on onto the task at hand. Since it is web based, it can work cross platform.

Focus Keeper

(Android, iPhone & iPad)

Free. Based on the Pomodor Technique, Focus Keeper is an app that allows the user to time their "focus sessions". After each session, it allows you to time a short break, and then you can start a new focus session. After 4 session the app will time a longer break (15-20 minutes). And repeat as needed. It is a way of making sure you don't burn out from studying!

Reduce Distraction

(Mac OS)

Free and open-source application for Mac OS that lets you block your own access to distracting websites, your mail servers, or anything else on the Internet. Just set a period of time to block for, add sites to your blacklist, and click "Start." Until that timer expires, you will be unable to access those sites—even if you restart your computer or delete the application.

StayFocused
